I am an avid gardener, everyone knows that, and I’ve also blogged many times about having to constantly oil and sand down my, frankly old and weathered, wooden bench. So this has plagued me for a long time, and the thought of not having to do this ever again, instantly sparked my attention. It’s called Winawood™, it’s by Gardencentreshopping, and I think you’re really going to love it.
The Winawood™ product, evolved from a concept of composite furniture called Sandwick, released in 2012, which was the first of it’s style in the home and garden market. It is a composite of two materials created in the process of making polystyrene, seriously compacted to form a solid material. They form to create a material that has an inner grain effect, which mimics the appearance and feel of hardwood, but has the synthetic, maintenance free properties of all weather furniture.
Gardencentreshopping are owned and run by Sapcote Garden Centre in Leicestershire, a family owned garden centre serving their local customers in the rural outskirts near the M69 at Hinckley. They have started various online stores to showcase their products, including Babyplants.co.uk, where they sell plug plants and mini plugs.
When I saw this product in person, all I could say was, “are you sure this isn’t made of wood?”. It seems that realistic, and clearly a lot of time and effort has gone into creating the effect in the material, which helps it fit into your gardens style, a lot easier than say a harsh coloured rattan set would.
I particularly liked the 3 seater Elegant Winawood™ bench, which seemed a lot more stylish. especially in the teak colour, which is probably my favourite out of the three choices.
Althought cheesy, and yes I’m sure many of you have seen this advert around, I enjoyed the way it displayed the pros of the bench, and it definitely appealed to me, as the maintaining (as previously stated) is something that really used to take up a lot of my time.
When I viewed them in store, they had benches, love seats, and dining sets, in the two styles (elegant and original), and in the three colours (teak, brown and duck egg green), so really they have every combination that you could ever possibly want. It might make it a bit awkward for them in store, but it’s better for us as customers!
Always a tricky subject, can I trust this seller? Well I definitely think that having a physical store address puts me at ease. Safe in the knowledge that there is a real company backing the website, and a real phone number to ring if anything goes wrong!

I continue to be impressed by the quality and durability of the Winawood furniture range provided by Gardencentreshopping. They have stood the test of time, including the chairs, which remain sturdy, and comfortable. I did manage to accidentally scratch one of the arms, but when I called Gardencentreshopping, they politely informed me that sanding down the arm would completely remove the scratch, and I was pleasantly surprised that it worked!
I still highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for weatherproof garden furniture in the UK.
